Type Locality and Naming

Northwest Henan. The Dagushi Fm was named by the Henan Party of Regional Geological Survey in 1964. The type section is located in Dagushi-Huangbeijiao Village, Shaoyuan Township, Jiyuan County, Henan Province. Lowermost formation in the Xiong'er Gr.

Synonym: (大古石组)


Lithology and Thickness

The formation is composed of terrigenous clastic rock association. Lower part consists of yellow, yellow-green and purple-red pebbly feldspar quartz sandstone. Upper part is purple-red sandstone and shale. The formation is 40 m thick. It changes greatly both in lithological character and thickness. It is up to 289 m at Fangniu Mt.,Shaanxian County, Henan, where it was metamorphosed, and consists mainly of conglomerate, dolomitic quartz schist and metamorphosed quartz sandstone.

Relationships and Distribution

Lower contact

The base is marked by conglomerate, which unconformably rests on underlying different horizons of either Archean or on Paleoproterozoic strata. Schematic stratigraphic column indicates underlain by Taihua Gr of Archean

Upper contact

It is in conformable contact with Xushan Fm.

Regional extent

NE Shaanxi-NW Henan-S. Shanxi. It is sporadically distributed in Wangwu Mt., Xiong'er Mt. and Xiaoshan Mt. in Henan Province.
